How to prepare your vehicle for transport: a 10-minute checklist

A few minutes of preparation makes pickup faster and protects you if a claim is ever needed.

Before the truck arrives

  • Wash the vehicle so existing scratches and dents are easy to see.
  • Take your own dated photos from every side.
  • Remove personal items, toll tags and loose accessories.
  • Keep fuel at about a quarter tank.
  • Disable alarms or tell the driver how to turn them off.
  • Note any leaks or mechanical issues for the driver.

At pickup

Walk around the vehicle with the driver and check the condition report before you sign it. You will receive a copy.

At delivery

Inspect the vehicle before signing, in daylight if possible. Any new damage must be written on the delivery report.
